Principal Biography



Bill Merrow has over 30 years of management experience as a business owner, general manager, sales and marketing executive, finance, technology and operations manager.

He has worked as a management and marketing consultant since 1995, with clients including American Express, General Electric, Walmart and hundreds of smaller firms. His accomplishments include:

US Army (1974 - 1983)
  • As Accounting and Budget Manager, Bill installed the first automated accounting system for the military club system in Europe.
  • He also developed a comprehensive planning and budgeting system for the Command and General Staff College.
CIGNA Healthcare (1984 -1987)
  • As Membership Director, he helped double membership in Phoenix from 100,000 to 200,000 members in less than two years. 
  • As Project Director, Bill led the development and implementation of a national information system in more than 40 locations.
American Express (1988 - 1995)
  • As Director of Long Term Care Insurance Sales for American Express, he built the sales force from 5,000 to 40,000 agents and increased sales from $10 to $60 million annually.
  • As General Manager for the Fixed Annuity business , Bill increased assets under management from $450 million to $900 million in 18 months, while reducing operating costs by 50% and relocating the business from California to Minnesota.
Independent Consultant (1995 - present)
  • He consulted with General Electric and assisted in the integration of 7 insurance companies, focusing on organizational change, business strategy, systems integration, marketing strategy, sales process innovation and training, as well as improving productivity and profitability. 
  • Bill is the author of “The Magic of Selling” a national sales training program designed to teach sales people the principles of Socratic Selling. He has trained over 40,000 sales people through this and other sales training programs.
  • He trained over 1,000 business owners and executives in the functions of management and consulted with hundreds of businesses in dozens of industries, including writing over 300 business and marketing plans.
  • Bill owned and managed a publishing company (Service Alliance) and an advertising agency (Mesmerizzzed!), delivering increased sales results for his clients in both organizations
  • Bill is also a Principal at Synergy Sales and Marketing, where he is responsible for development and execution for clients who outsource sales and marketing to the firm.
